I have seen this film about a million times but it was on TV over Christmas and it reminded me what a perfect example of an Action/thriller it is. The cinematography regarding the adrenaline junkie elements is stunning and the score fits perfectly. This is one of those rare examples where all the macro and micro features compliment one and other and the script, direction, performances all produce an exceptional film.

Watching it most recently what I liked the most was the motivations of the characters and how they are written exactly to type, even if you don’t understand the characters viewpoint, there view point is true to this character i.e. Bodhi (Swayze) Chaotic neutral, Johnny (Reeves) Lawful Good and Tyler (Petty) Chaotic good, understanding character alignment, helps you write a great script.

Considering it’s over 20 years old, it hasn’t dated and still resonates, I have always loved the slow mo shot of Swayze RIP in the Reagan mask with the petrol pump. I have also known numerous people who adore the chase, busted knee and gun unloading into the air sequence - A MODERN CLASSIC

—————————————————————————————————————-

SAM CLAYDON - Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) Director Brad Bird, Starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg

Over the Christmas break I watched a movie called ‘Mission Impossible 4’. I thought this was a very well made movie. The special effects are very cleaver, which made me think that the special effects could have been real, as they looked so realistic. The stunts were also very dangerous, which many times made me think if the characters would die from doing such a stunt like jumping out of the tallest building in the world. The whole movie was made so that it was very much realistic, all though the one thing the movie lacked in was the plot, as it got a bit confusing half way through, but got more understandable towards the end of the movie.

—————————————————————————————————————-

STEPH GALINSKY - Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) Director Rupert Sanders, Starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.

Snow White and the Huntsman gives a modern-day twist on the classic story, with thrilling battle scenes and seems to aim at The Lord of the Rings meets Brothers Grimm style. Although the film has those all important invigorating scenes it lacks the passionate love that is meant to be portrayed by Snow White, instead Kristen Stewart fails to get out of Twilight mode and is just as dismal and gloomy as her character ‘Bella’ from the saga.

—————————————————————————————————————-

OTIS AUOOB - Prometheus (2012)

Directed Ridley Scott, Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Therone, Guy Pearce (This post may contain spoilers!) With stunning visuals, and a lot to live up to as the prequel to “Alien”, Prometheus is set in the year 2089 and follows a crew of engineers and archaeologists who, based on very flimsy evidence, have been sent on a trillion dollar space expedition to a planet light-years away in hope of finding life.

The film seemed forced, as if it was only being created for profit, not to add to or explain the story behind the Alien series, and this is clear to see within the film. There are many unanswered questions throughout, as well as irrelevant and misplaced scenes that build up relationships that subsequently aren’t developed further, and information that is revealed slowly and is clearly supposed to build suspense for the audience, when the reveal was already obvious to the audience from the outset.
For me as a fairly big sci-fi fan, Prometheus was disappointing, but was also what I predicted; a film so forced I had to force myself to see it through to the end.

—————————————————————————————————————-

AMZ WINTER - The Offender (2012)

My favourite film I watched over the christmas break was “The Offender”. Directed by Ron Scalpello and written by Paul Van Carter. The main storyline of the film is that the main character Tommy played by Joe Cole seeks revenge on a group of teenagers involved in the London Riots for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. The film has lots of twists and turns which i loved and the sense of the unknown for who actually done the assault. It involves lots of guns, strong language and violence which i also enjoyed and the 2012 thriller is a great film for young adults/ adults.

—————————————————————————————————————-

BECCA COLLINS - The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Brilliant film :) The attention to detail is superb. There is one shot where the news is on with a picture of Dr Conners and the reporter is talking about how he has been put behind bars, but the TV is shot through some blinds which enforce the whole ‘put behind bars’ thing :) a lovely shot

—————————————————————————————————————-

EMMA BROWN - The Change Up (2011) This modern day comedy which takes a new twist on the film Freaky Friday. Through out the film we are shown everyday situations which has crude, witty comedy slotted into it. I found the story line enjoyable and had it’s very own unique funny way of telling the common story of two people switching bodies and lives. It had a The Hangover and Cheaper by the Dozen mix within the story line. Hilarious and enjoyable to watch.
